The short version

PearList collects no personal data. Your lists live on the phones of the people you share them with. Nothing is sent to any server. No account required.

What data is stored

All data is stored locally on the devices in your household group:

  • Your lists and their items (names, checked state, quantities, notes)
  • Who an item is assigned to, when you use a list as a chore board
  • The display name you choose for yourself
  • Pairing keys that identify the members of a household group to each other
  • App preferences

None of this data leaves your devices except to sync directly between the members of your group (see Peer Sync below).

Peer sync

PearList syncs your lists directly between the devices in your household group using the Hypercore Protocol, a peer-to-peer technology. There is no server or intermediary. Data is shared only with the specific devices that have joined your group.

All sync traffic is encrypted end-to-end, and every change is cryptographically signed by the device that made it. No third party ever receives or has access to your household's lists.

Permissions

  • Camera: Used to scan the QR code when you join a household group. Nothing from the camera is stored or transmitted.
  • Notifications: Used to deliver local alerts such as an item assigned to you or a new member joining. Notification data never leaves the device.
  • Network and local network access: Used exclusively for peer-to-peer connections between the devices in your group, including directly over your Wi-Fi. No data is sent to external servers.

No tracking or analytics

PearList contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting services and no third-party trackers of any kind.

No accounts

PearList does not require you to create an account or provide an email address. Each device's identity is a cryptographic key pair generated locally.

Open source

PearList is fully open source. You can inspect the complete source code at github.com/peerloomllc/pearlist.
